A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Travelex, a global foreign‑exchange provider with 1,200 stores and over 1,000 ATMs in 30 countries, set out to modernize its digital services and launch Travelex Wire, a cloud‑based international money‑transfer product. The company needed to meet strict UK financial‑regulatory requirements for a cloud workload while also accelerating product development and enabling rapid pivots (for example, from consumer to B2B) without sacrificing security or compliance.
Travelex built the platform on AWS using Docker microservices on Amazon ECS, with security controls like AWS KMS, Amazon VPC, AWS WAF, ELB and automated certificate rotation, plus serverless components (Lambda) and global edge services (CloudFront). The result: faster, audit‑friendly compliance, the “most secure system” the company had built, the ability to re‑architect Travelex Wire for B2B in 100 days, dramatically faster release cadence (up to 100 releases a week), and quicker customer onboarding through integrated KYC/AML checks.
