How Springworks got cars talking with SPARK and created an app that’s become a standard on Swedish phones

Springworks’ SPARK is a cloud-based IoT platform that connects cars with drivers and service providers, aiming for 20 million “talking cars” in Europe. To get there it had to ingest several billion daily data points, accelerate feature releases to outpace competitors, and build security and compliance into the infrastructure from day one.

By moving to AWS and using Auto Scaling, Elastic Load Balancing, Lambda, SNS, CloudTrail and EC2, Springworks gained virtually unlimited scale, automated event handling and built-in security—reducing operations from 90 to 30 people, increasing feature delivery from 0.5 to 2 releases per week, and cutting infrastructure build time from two years to two months. The platform is now being deployed by operators such as Telia across the Nordics and Baltics, setting SPARK up for wider European rollout and future analytics work.
