A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Liberty Latin America, a telecommunications provider serving about 1 million mobile subscribers, needed a low-latency, highly resilient infrastructure to support its billing and subscriber systems, disaster recovery needs, and rapid growth. Using **Amazon Web Services (AWS)**, including **AWS Outposts** and **AWS Local Zones**, the company built a parallel network in Puerto Rico and a backup environment in Miami to support its business-critical applications.
**Amazon Web Services** implemented the solution by enabling Liberty Latin America to run its BSS application on AWS Outposts in Puerto Rico and replicate data to an AWS Local Zone in Miami for automatic failover when latency dropped below 50 ms. The result was **99.999% availability**, average latency of **20 ms**, and a time-to-market improvement of **6–8 months**, while also reducing capital expenditure by paying only for the compute used.
