How Digital ReLab Enables Digital-Asset Management Using Amazon EFS

Digital ReLab, a Virginia-based developer of the Starchive digital-asset management (DAM) platform, helps media organizations organize, transcode, and monetize large audio and video collections. Faced with petabyte-scale file stores and clients generating up to 5 TB of content per day, the company needed to move its on‑premises, monolithic software to the cloud without a full rewrite to gain cost-effective scalability and manageability.

By building on AWS (Amazon EC2, S3, Auto Scaling) and adopting Amazon EFS as a shared file system, Digital ReLab retained a single codebase for on‑premises and cloud deployments, cut about six months of development time, and avoided overprovisioning storage. The change reduced total cost of ownership by roughly 40%, enabled scalable transcoding and rapid client onboarding, unified access across diverse storage backends, and freed the team to experiment with containers and serverless architectures.
