How credit card startup Petal redefined consumer credit worthiness using AWS services

Petal, a data-driven consumer credit company, needed a scalable and reliable infrastructure to support its credit card application process and mission to expand credit access for people with limited or no credit history. Using Amazon Web Services, including Amazon S3, Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL, and Amazon SageMaker, Petal built the platform it needed to handle growing application volumes and power its underwriting models.

With Amazon Web Services, Petal implemented managed storage, databases, machine learning, and Kubernetes services to improve speed, reliability, and engineering efficiency. The result was a system that scaled from a few dozen applications to millions, while SageMaker helped Petal iterate faster on its CashScore model and other ML tools, directly supporting its underwriting goals and broader credit-access mission.
