How CHOP uses AWS HealthOmics for storing, analyzing, and generating insights from genomic, transcriptomic, and other omics data for precision medicine

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) needed a way to unify and analyze rapidly growing multiomic and clinical research data at scale, while meeting strict privacy and data-sharing requirements. Using Amazon Web Services and AWS HealthOmics, CHOP sought to make gene searches and collaborative research faster and more accessible for its researchers.

Amazon Web Services implemented AWS HealthOmics and other HIPAA-eligible AWS services to help CHOP centralize datasets, run large-scale analyses, and protect sensitive patient information. The result was searchable data in minutes instead of days, with researchers saving hours and even months in gene-finding work, and in one case uncovering a genetic mutation that helped solve a decade-old epilepsy mystery.
