Case Study: Boehringer Ingelheim accelerates medicine launches with Amazon Web Services

A Amazon Web Services Case Study

Preview of the Boehringer Ingelheim Case Study

How Boehringer Ingelheim is transforming its ability to develop breakthrough treatments with its Dataland solution built on AWS

Boehringer Ingelheim needed a way to break down data silos and make curated data available across the company to speed up medicine development while improving compliance and data governance. Using Amazon Web Services, including Amazon S3, AWS Glue, and AWS Professional Services, the company built its Dataland self-service data hub to support analytics, machine learning, and broader workforce access.

Amazon Web Services helped Boehringer Ingelheim centralize and secure data across about 1,000 systems, with infrastructure spanning two AWS Availability Zones to meet regional data residency needs. The result was major efficiency gains: data scientists reduced time spent on data prep from 60% to near immediate access, users could start working within hours instead of months, more than 10,000 employees have used the solution, and over 3,000 staff have joined the Data Science Academy to strengthen data literacy and drive a data-driven culture.
