Case Study: BMC Software achieves better performance and fewer outages with Amazon Web Services

How BMC Software reduced downtime from hours to seconds using Amazon Aurora.

BMC Software needed to modernize hundreds of databases, improve performance, and eliminate outages as it migrated customers to the cloud. To support this effort, BMC used Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL-Compatible Edition and Amazon DMA as part of its move to AWS, aiming to reduce manual database management and improve the customer experience.

Amazon Web Services helped BMC build automation for the migration, enabling a fast rollout to the first 105 customers and cutting deployment time significantly. With Amazon Web Services and Amazon Aurora, BMC saw throughput improve, downtime drop from about an hour to just a few seconds during failover, 70 percent fewer outages in 2021, and no outages in 2022. BMC also improved database team productivity by 60–70 percent and reduced AWS infrastructure costs by 42 percent.
