How Autodesk helps the AEC industry realize better business outcomes with accessible data using Amazon DynamoDB

Autodesk needed a way to unlock granular data trapped inside large Revit files so customers could access building information more easily and reduce manual work. Using Amazon Web Services, specifically Amazon DynamoDB and related AWS streaming services, Autodesk built the AEC Data Model API to make asset details like materials, dimensions, warranty, and cost available without opening the design file.

Amazon Web Services helped Autodesk implement a scalable data pipeline with Amazon DynamoDB Streams, Amazon Kinesis Data Streams, and Amazon Managed Service for Apache Flink to ingest and process millions of elements into a unified Asset Graph. The solution now serves as a single source of truth, and during testing it read and wrote 81 million rows in one minute; Autodesk also expects daily usage to reach 100,000 Revit documents and 7 billion elements, enabling real-time visibility, less rework, and faster project delivery.
