A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Amazon Alexa needed a scalable way to meet Matter smart-home security requirements, including issuing a unique private certificate for every device. To do that, Alexa used Amazon Web Services’ AWS Private Certificate Authority (AWS Private CA) to generate and manage private certificates for Matter devices while avoiding the burden of running its own certificate authority infrastructure.
Amazon Web Services implemented AWS Private CA across multiple AWS Regions to provide a geographically distributed, highly available certificate-signing service with a single common root certificate. The result was automated certificate management, less manual work, faster configuration through APIs, and lower operational overhead, all while helping Alexa stay compliant with Matter standards and limit costs through pay-as-you-go pricing.
