Honda Builds Serverless Connected Car Platform for Millions of Cars on AWS

Honda wanted to build a second-generation connected car platform that could securely handle huge volumes of vehicle data and support a global rollout, but the project faced difficulties during design, development, and production deployment. To accelerate progress and improve the platform quality, Honda worked with Amazon Web Services using AWS Professional Services and services such as AWS CloudFormation, AWS Developer Tools, AWS Lambda, AWS Fargate, and AWS IoT Core.

Amazon Web Services helped Honda move to a serverless architecture that reduced infrastructure management and enabled bidirectional communication between cars and the cloud. With AWS Professional Services supporting design, testing, implementation, and handover, Honda launched the platform in Thailand, Japan, Europe, and India between December 2019 and June 2020, with overseas rollouts taking as little as two weeks and the new platform helping cut costs and open new revenue streams.
