Hearst Corporation, a global media company with hundreds of magazines, newspapers, TV holdings and more than 300 websites and apps, needed a way to analyze real-time clickstream events—readership, impressions and page views—so editors could monitor trending content, support data science and build dashboards across platforms.
Hearst built a clickstream analytics platform using Amazon Kinesis Streams and Firehose to stream over 30 TB/day into Amazon S3, transform data via a data lake, load it into Amazon Redshift, and expose insights through an API to its CMS. The system delivers insights in minutes, reduces pipeline management overhead, eliminated a managed EC2 bottleneck, and helped editors increase content recirculation by more than 25%.
