Case Study: GOL Airlines achieves faster onboard entertainment launches and scalable content delivery with Amazon Web Services

A Amazon Web Services Case Study

Preview of the GOL Airlines Case Study

GOL Airlines - Customer Case Study

GOL Airlines, one of Brazil’s largest carriers serving about 63 destinations, needed an onboard entertainment system because aircraft have no Internet connectivity. The main challenge was managing and synchronizing a large, varied content library (music—about 14,000 songs—videos, magazines, games, news, and targeted advertising) across individual onboard servers, ensuring exact content versions per aircraft and enabling partners to publish destination‑based ads.

GOL built an in‑house .NET solution whose onboard servers sync with central servers hosted on AWS whenever a plane lands and connects to airport Wi‑Fi. Using AWS for scalable, flexible storage and services (including partner publishing and partial uploads across airports) let GOL accelerate launch by six months, cut data‑center costs, gain on‑demand scalability and high availability, and free the company to focus on innovation while extending the approach to other projects.
