A Amazon Web Services Case Study
GMobi is a Taiwan‑headquartered provider of mobile apps and push‑notification, billing, firmware‑update and advertising SDK services for device OEMs and ODMs in emerging markets. Founded in 2011 with offices across Asia, Russia and the U.S., the company struggled with the cost, capacity planning and occasional outages of a local data‑center setup that led to customer complaints and constrained growth.
In 2012 GMobi migrated the majority of its infrastructure to AWS (EC2, ELB, S3, CloudFront, CloudWatch) while retaining sensitive data on‑premises for sovereignty. The move enabled rapid, on‑demand scaling and simplified operations: users grew from ~1 million to 120 million by 2016, MongoDB expanded from 100 GB to 20 TB, availability exceeded 99.9%, the platform handles multi‑million concurrent peaks, and product testing and launches became faster and less costly.
