A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Global Red, a Sydney-based lifecycle marketing firm founded in 1999, manages customer data and executes large-scale, data-driven campaigns from sources like web, ads, email, SMS and POS. Running applications and up to 30 customer databases across hosted data centers in Australia and New Zealand, the company faced limits to scale, slow client onboarding (up to six weeks), and a need for real-time processing, continuous deployment, and the ability to capture billions of events monthly.
Global Red re-architected its platform as microservices and moved fully to AWS (using S3, EC2 with Auto Scaling, RDS, Kinesis, CloudFront, SQS, CloudWatch and CloudFormation among others), with AWS support and staff training. The migration cut compute operating costs by about 25%, delivered >99.9% availability, halved client onboarding time, enabled automatic scaling for traffic spikes up to 800%, and reduced latency for Southeast Asia clients by 150–200 ms—allowing the company to focus on product IP and faster time-to-value for customers.
