Georgia Technology Authority - Customer Case Study

The Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) provides IT infrastructure and the enterprise content management platform for Georgia state agencies and manages Georgia.gov (about 4.5 million visitors and 16 million page views annually). By 2011 the agency was running an aging, inflexible CMS on about 47 in‑house servers, managing two versions, facing failed upgrades, high licensing and maintenance costs, and limited ability to scale for traffic spikes.

GTA migrated to Acquia’s managed Drupal platform hosted on AWS (OpenPublic/Acquia Cloud Enterprise) and worked with Mediacurrent to move sites with no downtime. The cloud solution improved scalability and availability (99.98% uptime), now hosts ~72 sites and 1M+ monthly unique visitors, reduced support headcount, and is projected to save the state roughly $5 million over five years while freeing GTA to focus on user experience.
