GameSparks - Customer Case Study

GameSparks, founded in the U.K. and Ireland in 2013, provides backend-as-a-service for game developers (clients include Square Enix, Rovio, Ubisoft and Amazon Game Studios). The company needed to build a high-performance, globally scalable platform quickly and with minimal capital investment to meet the unpredictable loads of modern games and win customers reluctant to outsource backend infrastructure.

GameSparks built its platform on AWS—using EC2 (with Reserved Instances), EBS, Lambda, S3 and AWS support plus analytics and machine-learning tools—to automate scaling, storage and global deployments. The result: from idea to production in nine months, a launch title with five million players in a week, and today hosting 4,300 games and processing over two billion API requests a month while enjoying three- to fivefold annual revenue growth and the ability to deploy worldwide (including China).
