Gamegoo - Customer Case Study

Beijing-based Gamegoo, founded in 2006 and backed by Tencent, is a 500‑person developer of popular online and mobile games whose revenues doubled over two years. Rapid mobile‑gaming growth in China (135% year‑over‑year and 279 million mobile players by mid‑2013) — plus a surge of about 50,000 daily new users for games like Kung Fu Journey in Southeast Asia — overwhelmed Gamegoo’s on‑premises servers, and procuring and configuring new hardware would have taken a week.

Gamegoo migrated to AWS, deploying in two weeks and using EC2 with Elastic Load Balancing and Auto Scaling, S3 and CloudFront, RDS (MySQL/SQL Server), and ElastiCache to deliver elastic, high‑performance infrastructure. The move produced near‑100% availability, supported the 50,000 new daily players, cut server deployment time from one week to about 30 minutes, and generated significant monthly cost savings versus buying or colocating servers.
