FuseFX Renders 1,000 Frames in One Hour Using AWS Thinkbox Deadline

FuseFX, a Los Angeles–based visual-effects studio that builds VFX for television, film, commercials, and VR, faced recurring capacity constraints from compute‑intensive CGI rendering. Building and maintaining a large on‑premises render farm was costly and inflexible, risking missed deadlines during peak workloads for episodic projects like The Tick.

By integrating AWS Thinkbox Deadline with Amazon EC2 Spot Instances and AMI templates, FuseFX can spin up identical cloud render nodes on demand and terminate them when finished. The studio now scales from on‑premises resources to hundreds of cloud nodes, completing 1,000‑frame jobs in as little as one hour, accessing roughly 300 cloud nodes for the cost of about 80 local nodes, and gaining the agility and cost savings to meet tight production schedules.
