Foursquare - Customer Case Study

Foursquare, a location-intelligence company whose mobile apps reach over 50 million monthly users, was struggling to analyze hundreds of millions of daily application logs. Their existing analytics database carried high licensing costs and demanded significant engineering time to maintain, limiting the company's ability to scale analyses and focus staff on strategic work.

Foursquare moved analytics to Amazon Redshift (with Tableau for querying), uses Amazon S3, EC2, and Direct Connect for storage, testing, and low-latency legacy workloads, and spins up ad hoc clusters as needed. The shift cut tens of thousands of dollars in licensing fees, freed engineers for revenue-generating projects, and provided flexible, scalable, and more agile analytics capacity.
