Formula 1 Uses AWS Solutions Media2Cloud to Build Custom Media Management System, Preserve 4 PB of Footage

Formula 1 faced a major media management challenge as its global archive of race footage, audio, and images grew to more than 150,000 hours of content. Researchers, editors, and producers were spending about 50% of project time searching for and accessing footage, making it hard to efficiently use both old and new media. Formula 1 turned to Amazon Web Services and its Media2Cloud solution to address the issue.

Amazon Web Services, with AWS Professional Services, helped Formula 1 build a custom media asset management system called the Media Processing Framework based on Media2Cloud. The solution ingested more than 4 PB of archived footage into Amazon S3, supported multiple formats and proxy files, and added enhanced metadata tagging for easier search. As a result, Formula 1 preserved its archive and improved discoverability across decades of content, significantly reducing the time spent searching for media.
