Expanding Automated Provisioning for Just-in-Time Access at Scale Using AWS with Navan

Navan needed a more scalable way to manage just-in-time access and identity provisioning across AWS accounts while maintaining least privilege and strong compliance visibility. Using Amazon Web Services and AWS IAM Identity Center, the company set out to replace a slower manual process with a custom identity management solution that could handle multiple accounts and reduce maintenance overhead.

Amazon Web Services helped Navan implement an automated provisioning and deprovisioning system with granular permission sets and centralized governance. The new approach has been running since 2021 with virtually zero maintenance and cut user-scan time from 25–30 minutes for 10,000 users to just 1–2 minutes. It also improved visibility into provisioning events, automated quarterly compliance tickets, and made compliance audits much simpler.
