Desire2Learn (D2L), the company behind the Brightspace learning platform, needed to keep its educational applications highly available, secure, and able to handle major seasonal traffic spikes while also meeting changing global data-privacy requirements. Using Amazon Web Services, D2L runs Brightspace and other applications on Amazon EC2, Amazon S3, Amazon CloudFront, Elastic Load Balancing, Auto Scaling, and Amazon Elasticsearch Service. This gave D2L 24/7 availability, flexible scaling up and down with demand, stronger security and privacy controls, and the ability to spin up development and test environments in minutes instead of weeks. As a result, D2L could innovate faster, deploy new tools in weeks, and improve the learning experience for customers with far less time and effort.
