A Amazon Web Services Case Study
DataFarming, an Australian precision agriculture company, wanted to deliver high-quality satellite-imagery data to farmers faster and more efficiently, even in the low-bandwidth conditions common in the field. To do this without increasing costs for itself or its customers, DataFarming turned to Amazon Web Services and used services including Amazon ECS to support its containerized workloads and data delivery.
Amazon Web Services helped DataFarming build a scalable, event-driven solution using Amazon ECS, Amazon EC2 Spot Instances, Amazon S3, and Amazon ElastiCache. The result was a platform that could process data from 35 million acres of farmland, support 28,000 farms, and boost satellite-imagery usage in Australia’s grain market by 900%, while also reducing compute costs by 70% versus on-demand Amazon EC2 pricing.
