A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Coway, a South Korean maker of air, water, and sleep consumer electronics and pioneer of the IoCare IoT service, faced growing performance and operational challenges as its connected products expanded into the U.S., Malaysia, Thailand, and Japan. The original vendor‑managed IoT platform caused latency, slowed product updates, required external engineers to operate, and carried high upfront and ongoing costs that blocked faster global rollout.
Working with APN partner POSCO ICT, Coway rebuilt its IoT backend on AWS using fully managed and serverless services—AWS IoT, Amazon Kinesis, Amazon DynamoDB, AWS Lambda, Amazon API Gateway and Auto Scaling—so it could scale automatically and internalize operations. The migration cut infrastructure procurement and operating costs, shortened deployment times, eliminated reliance on external engineers, and created a low‑cost, fast foundation for overseas expansion and future integrations like Alexa and Dash Replenishment.
