Coinbase - Customer Case Study

Coinbase is a San Francisco–based bitcoin wallet and exchange that supports millions of users worldwide. Facing rapid user growth and the need to legitimize and scale bitcoin services, the company prioritized security, availability, and elastic scalability while also seeking real‑time analytics and full control over its environment.

Coinbase built its exchange on AWS, using IAM, EC2, RDS/PostgreSQL, CloudFormation, VPC, Kinesis, Lambda, S3, EMR and Redshift to secure infrastructure, automate deployments, and stream and analyze telemetry (about 1 TB/1 billion events daily). The result: secure custody of customer funds, faster global scaling and launches, real‑time operational insight for engineers, and the agility to focus on product innovation as the business expands.
