A Amazon Web Services Case Study
CM Data is a Beijing-based startup that provides big-data decision-making tools for retailers — especially convenience stores — helping managers optimize inventory and merchandising across thousands of SKUs. Rapid growth exposed limits in their on-prem/cloud setup: they needed faster, more reliable ingestion and analytics, real-time results, stronger security, and lower operations overhead so teams could focus on product innovation instead of maintenance.
CM Data migrated core services to AWS, building a data lake on Amazon S3 and a processing stack using Amazon EMR, Lambda, Redshift, RDS, DynamoDB and ECS. The move cut development cycles by 2–3 months, reduced nightly processing from six hours to 15 minutes, improved stability and data durability, and lowered costs via Auto Scaling and Lambda’s pay-per-request model — enabling scalable, secure real-time analytics for thousands of stores.
