City of Porto - Customer Case Study

The City of Porto wanted to bridge the digital divide and make city services more efficient by breaking down data silos across municipal departments. As a fast-growing smart-city hub, Porto needed a solution that would expand citizen internet access while also capturing operational data to inform mobility, traffic, and service-planning decisions.

Working with AWS partner Veniam, Porto equipped 400+ buses and municipal vehicles with a V2X mesh network built on AWS (EC2, RDS, S3, Route 53, ECR), turning them into mobile Wi‑Fi hotspots and urban sensors. The system delivers free internet to thousands daily, streams terabytes of real-time data monthly for traffic, ridership, and network analytics, improves municipal service efficiency, and provides a scalable, repeatable smart-city platform that boosts Porto’s innovation profile.
