A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Centratech Systems (CTS) is an Australian provider of water and electricity monitoring and control solutions for local councils. The company struggled with first‑generation, expensive hardware and a legacy setup that required heavy server management, extensive coding, six-hour technician onboarding, and frequent physical visits—constraints that limited scale and left CTS vulnerable as more IT-oriented competitors entered the market.
Migrating to AWS (EC2 and AWS IoT) and adopting simpler IoT‑enabled devices—supported by AWS and partner PolarSeven—moved processing to the cloud and removed much of the server overhead. The result: devices now cost about two‑thirds as much, security and concurrent access improved, training fell from six hours to one, and field technician productivity rose 50%, allowing CTS to expand into smaller councils and new markets.
