Central East Ontario Hospital Partnership Launches a Clinical Information System in the AWS Cloud

Central East Healthcare, a seven-hospital regional partnership in Central East Ontario, needed a way to integrate fragmented medical records and deploy a clinical information system that could improve patient care while meeting strict security, reliability, and cost requirements. Working with Amazon Web Services and Deloitte, the organization chose the Epic EHR/CIS platform and moved the alternate production and disaster recovery environment to the cloud.

Amazon Web Services implemented a hybrid AWS Cloud solution using services like Amazon EC2, Amazon EBS, and Amazon FSx for Windows File Server to support the CIS and shared clinical assets. The result was a rapid 9-month build and deployment, improved uptime, performance, and security, and an estimated $10 million in savings over 10 years, while the system now supports 14 hospitals across the partnership.
