Canadian Pharmacists Association Uses AWS to Ensure Safe Use of Medications

The Canadian Pharmacists Association (CPhA), the national voice for pharmacists with a long history of producing drug and therapeutic resources, faced the challenge of modernizing largely paper‑based communication and upgrading its digital infrastructure to support new technologies (AI, voice recognition, wearables) and improve medication safety for patients and clinicians. CPhA needed faster, real‑time access to content and more effective digital tools—such as MyMedications.ca and its RxTx clinical app—to help pharmacies transition from dispensers of medicine to broader centres of health.

To meet that need CPhA partnered with LinkByNet and migrated its infrastructure to AWS, using services like Amazon DynamoDB, S3, SES, and ELB and hosting data in Canadian data centres. The move enabled a new notification system and a faster, feature‑rich mobile RxTx app, supported real‑time content updates, and cut operating costs by about 40%, while providing the scalability and reliability required to expand online products and improve patient care.
