CalvertHealth Improves Electronic Health Records System Resilience and Shortens Recovery Time Using AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery

CalvertHealth, a community-owned hospital in Maryland, needed to improve resilience for its MEDITECH electronic health records system because its existing recovery setup on premises had an unacceptable recovery time objective of 48 to 72 hours. The risk of prolonged downtime could affect patient care, disrupt information sharing with health exchanges and state agencies, and hurt the hospital’s reputation.

Working with HealthCare Triangle and **Amazon Web Services**, CalvertHealth migrated its recovery site to the AWS cloud using **AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery** and **AWS Backup** across nearly 140 servers. The result was a reduction in RTO from 72 hours to under 2 hours, a 97% improvement, along with better security, compliance, staff confidence, and no up-front costs.
