BurdaForward Automates Scaling, Cuts Infrastructure Costs by up to 65% on AWS

BurdaForward, the digital publisher behind brands like Focus Online, Bunte.de, and Chip Online, needed to modernize its legacy infrastructure to scale more flexibly, speed up innovation, and reduce wasted capacity. Working with Amazon Web Services and AWS Select Partner Valiton, the company set out to automate capacity scaling and move away from constant, overprovisioned on-premises environments.

Amazon Web Services helped BurdaForward build a microservices-based architecture on AWS using services such as Amazon EC2, EC2 Auto Scaling, AWS Lambda, Amazon CloudWatch, and Amazon OpenSearch Service. The new setup improved observability, reduced portal response times from about 4,000 ms to 800 ms, cut Elasticsearch response times from 25 ms to 10 ms, and lowered infrastructure costs by up to 65% through automatic scaling and overnight shutdowns.
