BurdaStudios, part of global media group Hubert Burda Media, runs Bunte.de—the leading celebrity-news portal in German-speaking Europe with about 6 million unique users and 30–35 million visits monthly. The team faced a rigid, monolithic hosting setup that couldn’t scale quickly for traffic spikes or deliver content efficiently across multiple channels (PC, tablet, mobile), creating delays and operational strain during breaking news.

BurdaStudios moved all-in to an AWS-based microservices architecture using Docker with Amazon ECS/ECR and AWS Lambda for serverless scaling and services like geo-lookup. The new platform auto-scales for traffic peaks, eliminated the need for 24/7 DevOps monitoring, and reduced content delivery time by about 75 (publishing in ~30 seconds), helping Bunte.de keep its competitive lead and capture more advertising revenue.
