A Amazon Web Services Case Study

Preview of the BP Case Study

BP - Customer Case Study

BP, a global energy company operating across upstream and downstream markets and serving millions daily, needed greater IT agility to support thousands of employees using critical SAP applications. With underutilized on‑premises infrastructure and project lead times measured in months, BP’s IT&S required a more flexible, responsive platform to modernize supply chain, procurement and finance systems.

BP chose AWS for SAP workloads, first deploying an SAP HANA analytics environment and then migrating a production ECC system to Amazon EC2 R4 instances—provisioning 220 virtual machines from planning to production in one week. The move enabled decommissioning of 11 physical servers, reduced licensing, support and maintenance costs through pay‑as‑you‑use scaling, and improved performance—average response times are about 40% faster—while BP plans to move its entire SAP landscape to the cloud over the next 18 months.
