Boosting Performance by 15x Using AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery with Ellucian

Ellucian needed a faster, more efficient disaster recovery process to meet yearly testing requirements and protect customer environments. Using Amazon Web Services, specifically AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery (AWS DRS), Ellucian set out to reduce the operational burden of failover and improve recovery performance while keeping its systems resilient and cost-effective.

Amazon Web Services helped Ellucian build an event-driven, largely serverless disaster recovery service with Amazon EventBridge and AWS Lambda that automatically recreates instances and updates key settings during failover. The result was dramatic: Ellucian’s first AWS DRS-based disaster recovery test took under 30 minutes, 90% faster than before, and the company improved both RTO and RPO by 15x.
