BMW Group Uses AWS-Based Data Lake to Unlock the Power of Data

BMW Group needed a better way to manage and democratize the huge volumes of vehicle telemetry it ingests every day through its AWS-based Customer Data Hub (CDH). Using Amazon Web Services, the company processes terabytes of anonymous data from millions of BMW and MINI vehicles to monitor vehicle health and identify issues before they affect customers.

Amazon Web Services helped BMW Group build a scalable data lake with services including Amazon Kinesis Data Firehose, AWS Lambda, AWS Glue, Amazon EMR, Amazon S3, Amazon Athena, Amazon SageMaker, and AWS AppSync. The solution introduced “data providers” and “data consumers,” a human-readable data catalog, and a Data Portal for more than 500 users, improving transparency, reducing bottlenecks, and accelerating application development through reusable GraphQL APIs.
