Blue Ocean Systems, a Singapore-based provider of SAP Business One for small and midsize companies, set out to deliver a cloud-based ERP on SAP HANA that was cost-effective for micro-businesses, fast to provision, and highly available. The company needed an infrastructure that could onboard customers in minutes (instead of days), scale to thousands, and meet availability above 99.9% while running the SAP HANA in-memory database.

Working with AWS and partner Cloud Comrade, Blue Ocean deployed SAP Business One on certified, memory-optimized Amazon EC2 instances (including r4.16xlarge), using CloudFormation, AMIs, EBS and S3 for storage and backups. The solution enabled 20-minute provisioning, scaled to 400 new customers in six weeks, reduced AWS costs by about 25%, delivered 99.95% infrastructure availability, and positioned the company to expand regionally.
