Bio-Rad Explores AWS IoT Greengrass and Amazon SageMaker for Next-Gen Medical Devices

Bio-Rad, a clinical diagnostics company, was developing next-generation medical devices and needed a secure way to transfer large volumes of instrument data to the cloud without disrupting edge devices. The company turned to Amazon Web Services, using AWS IoT Greengrass and Amazon SageMaker, to support its smart-device initiative and manage data and machine learning workflows.

Amazon Web Services implemented a solution that securely uploads instrument data, lightly transforms it with AWS Glue, and processes it through automated ML pipelines in Amazon SageMaker Notebooks, while also using Amazon S3 and AWS KMS for storage and encryption. The result was a more efficient, lower-touch workflow with reduced deployment errors, automatic resource sizing for large models, and safer data transfer even during connectivity drops; Bio-Rad said AWS support helped it move faster and succeed with the project.
