BGL Brings Deep Learning to Super Funds with AWS

BGL Corporate Solutions, an Australian developer of Self-Managed Super Fund (SMSF) and compliance software, runs the cloud platform Simple Fund 360 used by thousands of accountants to manage over 165,000 SMSFs. The company faced a time-consuming, error-prone pre-audit and transaction-categorization workflow that limited productivity and increased compliance costs.

To solve this, BGL built an AI personal assistant with TensorFlow on AWS—using Deep Learning AMIs, Amazon EMR for data preparation, and EC2 P2/P3 GPU instances (including Spot pricing) to train models on 300 million transactions. The solution halved some training times, reduced compute costs, eliminated many categorization errors, and is driving toward zero-touch SMSF processing, boosting accountant productivity and saving clients time and money.
