A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Banro Corporation is a Canadian gold miner operating four licensed properties along a major gold belt in the DRC, and began production at its Twangiza mine in 2011. Rapid growth left the company without a coherent IT strategy or infrastructure to support 16+ business systems that executives wanted live within 12 months, and deploying systems to the remote DRC site posed major logistics, budget and capacity-planning challenges.
Banro adopted an Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud strategy to avoid long procurement cycles and on‑premise data‑center complexity. Using EC2, VPC, a distributed Active Directory, S3 for backups and Riverbed to connect ERP, Banro launched Exchange in about four weeks and migrated its Sage ERP X3 in roughly eight weeks, running multiple production instances in the cloud. The move cut time to market, reduced capital expenditures, enabled secure remote access for a distributed workforce, and simplified rollouts to regional sites.
