A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Bankinter is a top-ten Spanish bank and an online-banking pioneer that handles the majority of its transactions through remote channels. To evaluate client credit risk it must run at least 5,000,000 complex simulations—work that required far more computational power than its traditional infrastructure could efficiently provide.
Bankinter moved the simulation workload to Amazon EC2, using Java and the AWS SDK to provision large, parallel grids of instances. This shift cut time-to-solution from 23 hours to 20 minutes, reduced costs, enabled a move from batch to parallel processing, and unlocked the ability to run far larger, previously impractical simulations; the bank plans to expand AWS use across other applications and units.
