A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Bandai Namco Studios, the game developer behind the smartphone title Drift Spirits, faced the challenge of supporting a social game with highly variable traffic while avoiding the time-consuming overhead of adding and operating dozens of in‑house servers. Anticipating rapid spikes during events and releases, the team needed a way to scale quickly, reduce administrative burden, and maintain performance and availability for players.
The studio migrated core infrastructure to AWS—using EC2, RDS, ElastiCache, S3, CloudFront and AWS OpsWorks with Chef—to automate environment provisioning and management. This enabled fast, repeatable deployments, automated scaling for traffic spikes, and on‑demand test environments, which cut personnel and server costs, reduced latency, sped release cycles, and supported up to a 100× increase in monthly active users during events while allowing significant off‑peak server reductions.
