A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Ricoh Company, Ltd., a global provider of imaging, document management and IT services, needed a more cost-effective way to host SharePoint for its Ricoh Global Services teams and clients. Relying on a US hosting service proved expensive, so in 2014 Ricoh Japan led a migration project to a cloud-based solution and built an AWS environment to replace the legacy hosting.
Using Ricoh’s Design and Managed Services for AWS, the team deployed a VPC-based architecture running SharePoint farms and supporting services on EC2 (with proxy, mail, DB and management tools) and a separate test VPC. The move to AWS cut operating costs to roughly one-third of the previous system, delivered faster provisioning, greater scalability and redundancy, and set the stage for future adoption of services like Amazon RDS and database analytics.
