Australia Finance Group Meets Challenge of Fintech Startups by Migrating to AWS

Australia Finance Group (AFG), a large Australian mortgage-broking network supporting 2,800 brokers and integrations with 45 lenders, faced pressure from cloud-native fintechs and needed to cut operational costs and free resources for innovation. Its mission‑critical Oracle Siebel CRM (1.2 TB) and other systems ran in two on‑premises data centers, limiting scalability and speed to market.

AFG migrated core systems to AWS—moving Siebel to Amazon RDS and app/web servers to EC2, then adopting API Gateway and AWS Lambda for serverless workflows—ultimately closing its two data centers. The move saved about AU$500,000 (~US$372,150) per year, shifted 60% of IT spend to innovation, grew the development team by 68%, and enabled much faster environment provisioning and greater agility to compete with fintech startups.
