A Amazon Web Services Case Study
Askey Computer Corporation, an ASUS-owned maker of IT and network-communication products based in Taipei, was tasked by the city to modernize Taipei Main Station as ridership grows. The challenge was to deliver a location-aware smartphone app that integrates with digital displays and CCTV, supports real-time traveler information and emergency messaging, and runs on a high-performance infrastructure that can scale up and down with passenger flows.
Askey chose AWS for its managed services and reliability, building the solution with Amazon EC2, Elastic Beanstalk for auto-scaling, API Gateway, Amazon Kinesis (collecting data from 5,000 beacons), AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, and S3. The system provides real-time navigation, transit and parking updates, emergency alerts, and usage data for planners, while delivering the needed scalability and reliability and cutting management overhead—requiring one IT administrator instead of an estimated 15 (about a 93% staff/cost saving).
