AQR Builds Apps Quickly and Securely on Amazon ECS

AQR Capital Management, working with Amazon Web Services and Amazon ECS, was challenged by slow, manual application provisioning and heavy infrastructure and security overhead in its on-premises environment. Before moving to AWS, its developers had to spend significant time managing infrastructure, SSL certificates, DNS entries, and compliance tasks instead of building finance microservices and other applications.

Amazon Web Services helped AQR build a PaaS using AWS Service Catalog and AWS CloudFormation, with a templated onboarding and deployment process that provisions applications and service accounts automatically. As a result, new applications can go from request to production in about 30 minutes, code changes can move from commit to production in under 10 minutes, and AQR has scaled provisioning more than 20 times while deploying nearly 700 microservices, including over 180 in production.
