A Amazon Web Services Case Study
AmInvestment Management (AmInvest) is a Malaysian funds manager and member of AmBank Group with more than 30 years’ experience and around MYR37.5 billion in assets under management. Its Quantitative Strategies & Solutions team ingests and analyzes over 1 TB of financial data (growing ~200 MB/day) to model and identify investment opportunities, but two on-premises servers were memory-constrained, causing scenario runs of up to two days and making capacity planning and budgeting difficult.
AmInvest migrated its research platform and database to AWS (running in a VPC with EC2, EBS, RDS-compatible instances, S3/Glacier backups and IAM controls), re-engineered its SQL Server to scale out, and uses AWS support for operations. The move cut projected five-year costs by 50%, reduced scenario turnaround time by more than half, eliminated unplanned downtime, and improved the timeliness and reliability of client service—positioning the firm to consider deploying SAP HANA on AWS for deeper analysis.
