Achieving 99.9% data availability to deliver carbon-free electricity

GE Renewable Energy needed to modernize its Digital Services platform to handle rapidly growing IoT data from more than 40,000 assets while improving availability, deployment speed, and scalability. To address these challenges, the company built a containerized architecture on Amazon Web Services, using Amazon EKS and AWS Enterprise Support to design a more flexible, cloud-native platform.

Amazon Web Services implemented a solution that also included Amazon MSK, AWS Glue, and Amazon EMR to ingest, process, and analyze data at scale. The results were significant: data availability improved from 89–92% to 99.9%, data processing volume increased 500%, and deployment frequency rose more than five times, enabling multiple releases per day and on-demand scaling without manual infrastructure provisioning.
