Achieving 30-Millisecond Search Results Using Amazon OpenSearch Service with CoStar Group

CoStar Group needed a faster, more scalable data plane for Homes.com to handle large volumes of listings, frequent updates, and heavy search traffic. Using Amazon Web Services, including Amazon OpenSearch Service, CoStar aimed to replace a slower on-premises setup that took 6–30 minutes to update listings and struggled to support real-time user demand.

Amazon Web Services helped CoStar build a modernized data plane with managed services that could scale on demand and keep data current. As a result, CoStar now updates listings in about 4 seconds on average and returns search results in an average of 30 milliseconds, while also reducing infrastructure and developer costs; the company estimated an on-premises solution would have cost at least four times more.
